November 27, 1994

Finally happened the very first brazilian Queen Convention.

It was idealized by Queenland and organized by me (Liane) and our friend Cleide.
Henrique was the responsible by
compiling the audio and videos rarities shown in the event and the Mastermind Competition. And we have had a help from Carlos that this day was our Master of Ceremonies.

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon; the audience was about 350 paying people, all
over the country enjoying themselves for about 9 hours, including the lead singer of the VIPER band, Pit Passarell.

I named this convention as KEEP FREDDIE ALIVE, and it took a place at a famous night club here in São Paulo called AEROANTA.
The Convention had an official support by EMI
Brazil and OIQFC (Jacky).
It was heavi
lly promoted by a (by then) rock radio station 97 FM and rock record stores and at least two newspapers.
Me and Cleide covered
the whole city of São Paulo with flyers and posters advertising the Convention.
Being a beneficent event,
the first idea was donate all profits to APTA, a group that take care of HIV+ people, which also had a time to talk about AIDS this day, when condoms were distributed. However, the profits did not covered the production costs  but we decided to make a donation anyway from our own pockets.

We had the day full of activities, some of which you can see clicking on the following links:

Queen Cover Special Concert

We also took care of such minimal details as Queen Food Menu, specially  adapted by us, using the normal menu from the Aeroanta, that included things like : Hot Dog as "Hot Space" or Milk Shake as "Sour Milk Seas"!

All people that won in their cathegory , won a Queen prize, we also had various draws of  Queen stuff like T-shirts, import books, original import VHSs, etc.

It was documented by a professional video maker, and our master tapes totalizes 5 hours of video material from the Convention.

It wasn't easy for only three people to do such a big event, specially if you consider that it was done/promoted without the power and facilities of the internet we have these days, and without any experience with the music business, dealing with three bands, etc.But according to the audience, it was a complete success.

"Yes, it was a worthwhile experience!"
