News Of The Day

July 8th 1999

I have a special message today for
Liane from Brazil! Ten years ago, in 1989, Henrique asked me to mention your wedding in the Fan Club magazine, which I did. I know you met because of Queen, and today you have spent ten years together " still rocking with Queen like never before!" as Henrique put it! Congratulations to both of you!! Henrique also says he hopes to be able to ask us to mention you both again in 2009,2019 etc etc... and I would be happy to do so!

I know many of you were surprised to read about Julie Glover leaving - if you would like to pass on your best wishes via us then feel free to send your messages here and I'll pass them on to her. If you're going to the SAS gig tonight at The Brook in Southampton then you can tell her yourself, because I think she's going along as a guest!

A message for Italian fans (or anyone else who wants to vote...)
"I would like you to mention in your news this link:

http://www.repubblica.it/online/musica/canzoni/classifica/classifica.html

Here is the ranking of a new Italian millennium poll: no Queen in it for now ! So come on Queenie, vote for BoRap sending a mail to this address: votacanzone@repubblica.it Send ton of mails for BoRap ! Thank you, Bye, Nick"

I mentioned the idiots in our chat room the other day, and Kat has mailed me and said it's easy to ignore them, you just type - /ignore <nickname> - and you wont even see what they're saying!

Thanks to Beth for this information: "This past Saturday in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, over 180,000 race fans were brought to a pre-race frenzy to the tune of "We Will Rock You" blasted over the PA system around the 2.5 mile race track. The Daytona Pepsi 400 marked the largest gathering of people for a single sporting event in North America, and Queen rocked the crowd immediately prior to the ceremonial "start engines" command and the drop of the green flag. From my vantage point in the infield it was nothing less than spectacular; the sound and the sight of it all sent chills down my spine! Long live Queen!! Beth, Tampa, Florida, USA"

How fab!

On this day in history.... in 1980 Queen played Los Angeles Inglewood Forum. In 1985 Freddies "Made In Heaven" single entered UK chart at No. 57. In 1986 Brian appeared on ITV Tyne Tees ' Northern Life' and BBC's 'Look North' TV programmes to talk about the Queen shows and the fact that they were donating all the proceeds from that evenings Newcastle St James Park gig to the Save The Children Fund. I was lucky enough to blag a lift to that gig on the band's private plane from London (a tiny little jet!) , and as we approached Newcastle Freddie said "how many people at this gig then?" John said it was about 50 thousand and Freddie laughed and said "one of our smaller venues then!"!!

In 1987 Brian appeared on BBC Radio 1's "Newsbeat" programme and then he flew off to Vienna with Anita Dobson to make a video for her new single "Talking Of Love" (and they were still denying ALL rumours of a relationship....!) In 1993 Brian played Lyon Halle Tony Garnier.

That's it for tonight, see you tomorrow!!
